Travel guide N.36

Written and photographed by Margot Van Der Krogt

Amsterdam radiates an electric energy that can be felt even by those who pass through for a brief visit — it might have something to do with the dizzying amount of bicycles that race through the city at any given moment. Add to the chorus the insistent ringing bells of the trams and the honks of the tourists boats in the canals and it’s quite an overwhelming experience. And still, it’s easy to get lost in the city’s small streets. The famous canal belt is something out of a movie; the crooked façades of the 17th-century buildings are so imperfectly perfect that it’s hard to believe they’re actually real. In a city like this, it’s about finding the beauty in the chaos. It reminds me of the hollyhock flowers in the summertime, their roots are so strong that they manage to blossom through the cracks in concrete sidewalks. I’ve put together a guide that will take you to some of the lesser-known green places in the city when you’re in need of a quiet escape from the crowds. I hope they’ll make you fall in love with Amsterdam (again).

Format: Digital travel guide (20 places, 55 pages). You’ll receive a link to download the PDF file, optimized for mobile.

What to expect: rather than an exhaustive directory, this guide offers select points of interest and venues that have been carefully curated by Margot a writer, explorer, photographer and traveler based in Amsterdam. It includes:

- a complete list of her favorite green places to explore around the city;

- useful copy explaining why you should go to each spot, what’s a must-have and when is the best time to go;

- beautiful photography to give you a first glance of the places;

- an online map with all the spots so you can easily visualize them and get directions to get there.
