From Rome to Milan by train
by Sarah Arnould
From Rome to Milan via Florence and Portovenere to the Cinque Terre, the road isn’t easy. Taking the train is a good solution to move: do not worry about the traffic and let yourself be carried away from one city to the next. We took a plane from Bordeaux to Rome and stayed 10 days from September 30th to October 8th: 3 nights in Rome, 2 nights in Florence, 3 nights in the Cinque Terre and 2 nights in Milan. It was a fast-paced trip but it was ok for us.
Rome- Florence: 1h30
Florence- La Spezia (Cinque Terre): approx. 2h
La Spezia-Milan: 3h
We booked all our trains on sncf.com, except for the trip from Rome to Florence where we used trenitalia.com
