A taste of Calabria
by Rosella Degori
First of all: Calabria is not for everyone. If your idea of perfect travel experience involves traditional destinations, luxury hotels, trendy restaurants, hipster coffee shops etc… well, you’d better look elsewhere.
This region, included among the best places to visit in 2017 by New York Times, is still wild and ‘archaic’ for many aspects and is the ideal destination for a deeply authentic adventure away from the beaten path.
Still quite unknown to many, Calabria unfolds a story that dates back to hundreds thousands years BC.
Once one of the most important Greek colonies in the Mediterranean, (before being colonised by the Brutii, Ostrogoths, Byzantines), it’s filled with archaeological records from this glorious past and amazing food traditions.
So, if this is enough to pique your interest, come with me - I’ll show you around some of my favourite spots.
Oh and don't forget to rent a car, it's pretty essential over here.
