Our favorite hotels for the summer

When trying to figure out your plans for the summer, finding the perfect hotel can be a great place to start. But again, there are many hotels out there, and oftentimes the coolest ones don’t appear on page one of booking websites... As summer is now approaching, we’ve selected some of our favorite hotels to help you find inspiration.

SAO LOURENCO DO BARROCAL, PORTUGAL

In the same family for over 200 years, São Lourenço do Barrocal is an ancient farming village that has been brought back to life as a magnificent rural luxury hotel. Surrounded by the magical ambience of Alentejo, near the beautiful village of Monsaraz, it’s the perfect retreat in the Portuguese countryside.

COQUI COQUI MERIDA, MEXICO

Merida is experiencing a cultural renaissance and a slow revivification of its affluent apogee. Located in the midst of the “zocalo” or historical city center just a few steps away from the busy Santa Lucia Square, the beautiful Coqui Coqui Merida is set within a 1903 townhouse, reminiscent of the Belle Époque era. The decadent one-suite residence houses Coqui Coqui’s signature perfumery, spa, boutique, café & salon.

BAUER PALLADIO, VENICE

Located on the Giudecca island, a gem distant enough for that feeling of freedom yet still just a short, picturesque boat ride away from the heart of Venice. The Palladio is set within the walls of a former convent. Its style is classic and sober, never rococo. After the lobby and a long corridor, you’ll discover four gardens laid out by Francesca Bortolotto, the Bauer group’s CEO. Each garden evokes a different mood and story – a Venetian wonderland.

ACE HOTEL, PALM SPRINGS

Ace Hotel & Swim Club is a 173 room hotel, spa and resort located in Palm Springs, CA. It's on the grounds of a re-imagined and renovated mid-century modern motel, within walking distance of downtown and close to Joshua Tree National Park, the Salton Sea and Indian Canyons. Palm Springs is the desert. People come here to escape the city and recharge with the tranquility of the desert landscape.

BUENA VISTA, LANZAROTE

Buenavista is a family-owned, small design hotel located near Timanfaya National Park, and it’s probably the most beautiful place to stay on the island. Surrounded by vineyards and volcanoes, all the rooms offer extensive mountain views. Wake up here, in this oasis of calm, with a home made breakfast basket brought to your room. Need we say more?

EL PATIO 77, MEXICO CITY

El patio 77 is Mexico City’s first eco-friendly bed & breakfast, and a space where history, sustainability, art and hospitality come together. Each of the eight rooms is named after one of Mexico's states and its decor reflects either the artistic traditions of its namesake or something unique about that state. All the crafts in the house are for sale and come from small villages and producers from all the corners of the country.

CAPTAINS REST, TASMANIA

Captains Rest is a Historically Listed, absolute waterfront cottage in Lettes Bay Village, just outside of Strahan, Tasmania. Complete with its own jetty out the front, you're sure fall deeply in love with this place. Lettes Bay Village itself is a vibrant heritage shack community — bustling in summer, serene in winter, you’ll love your stay in both seasons equally.

RIAD DE TARABEL, MARRAKECH

In the heart of the most beautiful district of the Medina, dotted with antique shops and the Dar El Bacha Palace, lies a unique property: Riad de Tarabel. An old colonial style mansion, Riad de Tarabel combines harmony and elegance embodied in tree-lined patios, terraces bathed in light, open lounges and comfortable nooks, in an original decor blending subtle traces of Moorish architecture with Second French Empire style.
